parents
2006 is here... leaving 2005 behind us... but besides preparing and making new resolutions for the new year, we should also give thanks for the past year...
today i woke up late for church... so i took a cab down... as i was chatting with the cab driver about daily things like school and work, he mentioned something to me which left me in deep thoughts...
he said "your mom must be a housewife correct?"
"erm... no ah... she is not..."
"cannot be lah!! you are so polite and well mannered... im sure your mom must have been a very good mother"
"yah... maybe cos she is a teacher?"
"oh teacher ah... maybe lah... haiz nowadays kids getting from bad to worse ah... you dun have to go university and study and compete... you compare your character with them you win already loh..."
during sermon today, my pastor spoke about giving thanks for the year that has past... and as i sat there i thought of my parents and how well they have done bringing me up... for the past 21 years they have never stopped loving me... cos its not some cheapo love like some teenagers profess to each other nowadays... but instead true and unconditional love... and i realised that all these years i had never once thanked them for making me who i am today... i started to tear uncontrollably... i imagined my parent's face when i was born, the wide smiles that they had, my dad thinking to himself "that's my boy!", my mom saying to herself it was all worth the pain... i imagined their joy when i took my first tiny step and said my first word... their heart wrenching moments when i took my first falls... and the heart breaking time the first time i shouted back at them... every parent is the same... we always think our parents don't love us enuff... but when we become parents one day, our child will be our world... we will love him/her with all our heart, our mind, our soul and our strength... won't our parents do the same for us now??... love breaks all barriers...
how could i have been who i am today without my parents? people say when we grow up we will look like our parents... i dun want to just Look like them, i want to Be like them... say a little thank you to your parents today and tell them how much you love them too...
who do you want to thank today?? show that someone you are thankful...
"don't only study for exams... study for the sake of knowledge..."
